Brixton Pottery
Brixton
pottery is designed by Alex and Tania Dufort. It is made and decorated
entirely by hand in Staffordshire, England using traditional methods
that have changed little in 200 years. The technique used to produce sponge
ware probably originated in Crete around 4000 years ago. Fine root sponges
are carefully cut into floral , or geometric shapes, dipped in coloured
oxides, and applied to the biscuit pottery. No two pieces are exactly the
same. Brixton Pottery sponge ware is under glaze decorated, dishwasher-proof,
and safe to use in freezer, oven, or microwave oven. By contrast the lustre
ware is onglaze decorated and is for decorative purposes only. For
